Technology Has Affected Our Lives

Celine Nguyen Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 25 February 2016 Technology Has Affected Our Lives        Technology is a part of our lives. It has helped us with communication, transportation, education, and  many more. We have faster communication through phone calls, emails, texts, and facetime. Cars, trains,  and airplanes transport us faster than walking. Computers and iPads have helped students in school learn  something new in a fun way. Technology has helped us a lot, but it has also affected our lives in a negative  way.        Texting is a fast way to communicate. 91 percent of adults (Rainie paragraph 1) and 78 percent of   teens own a cell phone (Rainie paragraph 5). We text our friends and family to ask questions or just for fun.  Americans between the ages of 18 to 29 send and receive about 88 text messages every day (Kluger  paragraph 5). Texting has caused some peo...

Coral Reefs

Jennifer Colucci Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 29 October 2015 Coral Reefs Many scientists and government officials are constantly arguing over the protection of coral reefs. Many reefs are being destroyed due to overfishing, boating, pollution, and human activity. Should coral reefs be protected even more? Coral reefs are a ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of coral. Coral is actually an animal in the cnidarian Phylum. The reason they live in reefs is because they are sessile animals meaning they are immobile. There are about 6,000 known species of corals some being Brain coral, Fan coral, and Elkhorn coral. The largest coral reef on the planet is the Great Barrier Reef. It is 1,553 miles long and located in the Coral Sea in Australia. The second largest reef is the Red Sea Coral Reef reaching about 1,180 miles long and located in the Red Sea near Israel. Corals reefs are important for a few reasons. Coral reefs are home to over 5,000 spe...
Karan Nair Block 3 January 4, 2016 Importance of Diabetes This paper informs about the disease and influences diabetic patients or doctors to find a cure.  The article states the symptoms of diabetes and how to manage it.  This paper is for people who are diagnosed with diabetes, including my mother.  Diabetes is a metabolic disease where the body is unable to make insulin, causing elevated levels of glucose in the blood.  Metabolism is how we use digested food to produce growth and energy for our body (MNT 2015).  There are two metabolic processes, anabolism and catabolism.  Anabolism is the building up of complex molecules.  Diabetes is a catabolism process which is the breaking down of complex molecules.   This long term disease can make patients dehydrated and very hungry when levels of glucose are high (MNT 2015).  Diabetes patients must take glucose tablets if sugar levels are too low or must take in carbohydrates.  S...

Teachers say it helps kids learn, but to students it just feels like extra work. School already takes up seven hours of the day, add in time for e...

Noah Pritchard Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 3 13 January 2016 Should College Athletes Get Paid             For a long time, there has been an argument about whether college athletes should be paid or not. Some people say it is a job to play sports in college and others say it is a privilege. In my opinion, athletes should be compensated for playing sports throughout college. They are involved in a market that generates hundreds of millions of dollars, and they get none of it (nytimes.com).             There have been many instances of student-athletes wanting to get paid. The most noteworthy of which is the Northwestern University football team. The players believe that they are employees of the University based on the definition provided by the National Labor Relations Board in Chicago (elonpendulum.com). The players do technically fit this definition of an...

Children's Educational Rights

Tasnia Chowdhury Ms Asuncion English 9H Block 3 27 October 2015 Children’s Educational Rights             Education is a foundation of human rights, which develops freedom and empowerment. Government needs its own will and commitment to change the rules and regulations, but government lacks support from people. Therefore poverty has been a complex societal issue. Many European, African and Asian countries do not give children the opportunity to educate themselves. Education has many positive outcomes for a learner. Children’s should be given educational rights because it makes them equal and helps end discrimination. What kind of roles does education play on our society?             Many children around the world face poverty every day because of “not having enough money to provide food, shelter and clothing for their families” (“Poverty” p.1). Poverty isn’t only ab...

Process Writing, Research Paper

Sudiksha  Kochi   Mrs. Asuncion   English, Block 3   3 February 2016                                                                The Mystery Behind Missing Children   I enter this realm beyond reality full of laughing, carefree, young souls as they play games and have a spirit full of hope and innocence. Suddenly, a dark force surrenders their bodies one by one, and all that's left is misery and melancholy relatives that were closely attached to these miniscule children. I watch as their wet tears collide with memory and roll down their cheeks, as each drop is gone, vanished into thin air. A realization struck me that this utopia of peace is j...
Evan Grace Asuncion English 9H, Block 2 7 January 2016 Why Should You Eat Organic? In the age of obesity, health fads, and exercise trends, there is one thing that should be a constant and that is organic foods. Organic foods are not only better for your body and healthier than conventional foods, but they also keep you from the usual poisons used in commercially grown food, and help preserve the environment. Organic foods are better for your body because they contain more nutrition, taste better, and avoid genetically modified organisms (GMO). These organic foods contain more nutrients than commercially grown food. The soil of organic food is better managed and nourished with responsible standards using sustainable practices. A study done by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine compared organically and conventionally grown fruits vegetables and grains. They found significantly more nutrients in the organically grown foods. Organic foods also generally tast...

Taking Innocent Lives

Taking Innocent Lives             Globally, abortion claims two billion lives each year and has cost the world untold value in the loss of scientist, artists, educators and others who may have contributed to the cause of humanity. Abortion is defined in several ways all of which stop a pregnancy, which is senseless when adoption is a much better option for anyone in an unwanted pregnancy. That child may be a burden to you but to someone else, it is a blessing and miracle especially to those who can’t have children of their own. That is why one of the main features of Christianity teachings is its emphasis on human life that is valuable and should be protected at every stage. Abortion will always be a controversial topic in which everyone will agree on. In the middle of a controversy, two groups will come on the scene. They are referred to as pro-life and pro-choice.           ...
