All the Beautiful Seasons

Celine Nguyen Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 2 October 2015 All the Beautiful Seasons There are four seasons in a year With many things that are so dear Like flowers, animals, and Christmas trees And like spending time with your families In winter, we sing carols and have snowball fights We drink hot chocolate and hang up Christmas lights We also open presents from family and friends And we always think that the fun in winter never ends In spring, the warm days have finally come All the bees and birds like to buzz and hum The flowers are blooming and the animals are out of hibernation The students are excited to almost be on vacation In summer, there is no homework and no school The children play on beaches and also in the pool Everyone eats ice cream and has a lot of fun But, we all are sad when summer is almost done In autumn, all the leaves are no longer green They turn red, orange, and yellow and it's almost Halloween

Hope Is Always Here

Celine Nguyen Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 20 November 2015 Hope Is Always Here              In your life, there are some good days and there are some bad days. You might have a day when something amazing has happened to you and you jump for joy. You might have a day when something bad unexpectedly slaps you across the face. You might feel like you can't handle what has happened to you and you start to lose hope. To everyone who has lost hope, I am here to tell you that you will have hope again.              In the book Hope Was Here , Joan Bauer writes about a girl who gives hope to people. Hope Yancey is sixteen years old and she works as a waitress at a restaurant every time she moves to a new place. She lives with her aunt, Addie, who is a cook. Hope has been through a lot in her life and she has a lot going on in her life. When she was a baby, she was born too early and too small. She has attended six different schools and has lived in fi

Technology Has Affected Our Lives

Celine Nguyen Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 25 February 2016 Technology Has Affected Our Lives        Technology is a part of our lives. It has helped us with communication, transportation, education, and  many more. We have faster communication through phone calls, emails, texts, and facetime. Cars, trains,  and airplanes transport us faster than walking. Computers and iPads have helped students in school learn  something new in a fun way. Technology has helped us a lot, but it has also affected our lives in a negative  way.        Texting is a fast way to communicate. 91 percent of adults (Rainie paragraph 1) and 78 percent of   teens own a cell phone (Rainie paragraph 5). We text our friends and family to ask questions or just for fun.  Americans between the ages of 18 to 29 send and receive about 88 text messages every day (Kluger  paragraph 5). Texting has caused some people to not engage in a face to face conversation. They may have  trouble

Books Over You

You call me weird, you call me crazy,   You say that I'm a mess.   That books have changed me, but not for good,   That I've become obsessed.   I stay in my room, wrapped in a blanket,   Reading a really good book.   You say books are stupid, that they are dumb,    But you haven't even had a look.   I'm antisocial, a loner you say,   I never spend any time with you.   You say you're my friend, my best friend,    But the distance between us grew.    You tell me that you know me,    That you will always be there,   But you were never there when I needed you,    Never there, I swear.   Where were you when I needed you,   When my days were bad.   Books were there when I needed a friend,    Or if I was just sad.    Books taught me many things,   I don't just learn in school.   They taught me to be strong, be wise, and be brave   And that being me was bett

Accipiter Luna

Parker Koch English 9H Asuncion 4/28/16 Accipiter Luna In a time before stars, before the Earth bore Man’s scars, There was only a forge, set in the deep ridge of a bottomless gorge, Ripped from the flame, its burning silvered frame, Forged in white starlight, its fresh blade alight, It bore its master’s mark, the bane of the dark, Its steel carved feather, reflecting the cool midnight weather. Accipiter, The name of its master, Luna, For the moon, its first true owner. A sword so sharp, it sang like a harp. For years it will sit, waiting for the one with Honor to bear it, Waiting for you young hawk, You and your ethereal mark.

Reader's Response, "Last Chain on Billie"

Kylie Hegner Ms. Asuncion English 9 Honors, Block 6 7 December 2015 Reader’s Response             I recently read the book, Last Chain on Billie: How One Extraordinary Elephant Escaped the Big Top by Carol Bradley. This book is about how an elephant named Billie was taken away from her mother as a baby and was eventually sold to the Hawthorn Corporation. Here Billie and other elephants performed in the circus and were constantly mistreated and abused by the trainers. The elephants were forced to do tricks unnatural to any elephant. The trainers constantly beat and hurt the elephants and used bullhooks extensively (bullhooks are hooks used on elephants’ thin, sensitive skin to get them to do tricks and hurt the elephants). The elephants never got any free time to exercise or play and were often denied medical care. Billie and many other animals were constantly on trailers driving from town to town performing with very little breaks in between. After not following the

Adventures in Paris

Eve Thompson Ms. Asuncion 21 October 2015 Adventures in Paris             When I was eleven years old, my grandparents took my mom and me on a week-long trip to the city of lights itself, Paris, France. We flew on separate flights over and back, as my grandparents had plans to go to England as well. Little did I know that this trip held surprises I would never forget.             My mom and I flew on a red-eye flight over, and my first taste of Paris was the very large and somewhat frightening Charles de Gaulle Airport. It was a labyrinth of sorts, with hotels on one side, the terminals on the other, and the cute little cafés that are typical to airports. We almost got lost trying to find our way through it. We purchased train tickets to get to our hotel, which was far away from Charles de Gaulle. When we boarded the train, the sight was unexpected. The benches were well-loved from all the commuters in Paris. There were posters in French advertising various perfumes or sho
Ricky Rommelse Ms. Asuncion English 9H Block B6 21 October 2015 Ricky Rommelse Ms. Asuncion English 9H Block 6 23 October 2013 The Night Sky Each night, millions of star are littered across the sky. Shining so brightly, creating a breathtaking sight. The stars and night sky need each other, More so than you think. Without the dark backdrop of the sky, the stars won’t shine. No wishes will be made, And all the stars will fade. But what does the night sky need the stars for? A great question. The stars help highlight the never ending mystery of the night. Even though the sky is endless, And the stars are dead, Together they come alive. Like you and me.
