Book Review: Queen of Shadows
The book Queen of Shadows is the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas. In this book, Aelin, the Queen of Terrasen, returns from Wendlyn with the fae-prince, Rowan, to destroy the king of Arlan, who killed her family and took over her kingdom.  With the help of her cousin, Aedion, a courtesan, named Lysandra, and a group of rebels led by Choal Westfall and Nesryn Faliq, she kills the king, destroys her cruel former master named Arobynn, frees magic (the king had taken it away on the day that he destroyed her kingdom), and helps the king’s son, her friend named Dorian, get rid of the Valg prince, a group of demons from another world, that father let possess his body. Meanwhile, the wing leader of a group of ironteeth witches, named Manon, struggles to do what is right. The matron of the clan, her own grandmother, orders her to let a coven of witches be given over to Duke Parrington, who is in alliance with the King of Arlan, so that he can force them to mate with the Valg demons to try and produce a powerful offspring.
One of the things I really love about this book is the characters. There is a range of different personalities in this book, which makes it easier for many different readers to relate to the characters. Also, the many aspects of each characters personality makes the characters seem more like real people. The characters also grow and change throughout the series. You can see them develop and what makes them develop, which is good because real people grow and change as they go through different experiences. For example, in the second book Aelin’s best friend Nehemia dies.  This greatly affects Aelin by making her alienate people she once trusted and changes many of her personality traits.
Another thing I love about this book is the plot. It is complex and interesting, with many sub-plots and interesting twists and turns. Unlike some other books I’ve read, it is not confusing, or hard to follow. This is because, even though there are many changes to the plot, the author describes everything that happens in detail, so the reader always knows what is happening.  For instance, characters think about what they are doing while they do it, which provides more details. There are also many details provided in situations when the characters are fighting; the author will describe the specific moves, punches, kicks, etc., that the characters use in order to clarify what is happening.

These two factors are very important to a book because without good characters your readers cannot relate to them, and they will not seem believable because no one is perfect, and so characters must also be that way, with good and bad in them. Without a good plot, the book will either be boring or too confusing, making readers not want to read your books.  This book is amazing because it has realistic characters and an entertaining plot. I would recommend this book to teenagers who like fiction. With fantasy, adventure, magic, and even romance, it has something for everyone to love.
